Religion compromises the rational integrity of the individual to achieve moral cohesion in a scalable group. The former is why atheists fight it, the latter why religious societies fight atheists. (Ideology is similar to religion, both are built around a sacred narrative.)

"Rationality is only a tool." I wasn't making an argument, just stating the obvious. Misapprehending ppl as computers that process increasingly coherent sets of rational propositions in order to function more and more effectively is a mistaken notion.
