We are a short game species. Our decisions are optimized for muddling through two or three generations. Our governments plan for ten to twenty years at best. Once you look a little further, the status quo falls apart.

Probably effects of mass extinction on food chains, poisoning by blue algae and fungi, atmospheric pollution by giant wildfires or so. Perhaps there’s a small chance that AI or nuclear war get us before that :)
