I am not sure what it means to experience unconsciously. Is it sufficient that a part of your nervous system registered the stimulus and passed it on, even if it was dismissed or not integrated somewhere higher up?

In that case, I would not say that "I" have experienced that. For that, it seems to be necessary that "I" have a chance remembering it later on.

Yeah The illusory ( albiet useful "I" ) has next to nothing to do with any of this. Not necessary for consciousness ( as you know).

I think that only the I is conscious. (You can strip out the I content of course, but it's still a dream character that experiences a dream.)

But if I dream of myself dreaming and waking from a dream all while asleep what word will we use for THAT 'I' or *me*?

The experience of waking up from one dream into another one is itself part of the dream.

The dream of the I. As in "I dreamt that I was flying in the clouds and then I woke up and was in my bed and worried about my parents and the state of the economy".

You've omitted a level. Waking from a dream into another dream ( while sleeping all the while) and THEN waking up and worrying about the state of the ecomony.https://twitter.com/davidarredondo/status/1111775702427160576?s=19 …

Every state in which you find yourself immersed into a reality is a dream state

Agreed. Are you also saying that an " I" dreams it? (We're probably too deep in for Twitter at this point but thought I would ask).

We typically reserve that for states where the I later reconstructs that it was immersed in a representation (ie dreams during sleep). But the dreaming is done to the I by the mind, the I does not create the dream.
