Subtly wrong ideas are much more dangerous to progress in science than plainly wrong ideas. Some subtly wrong ideas seem to include mirror neurons, integrated information theory, the gut brain, the extended mind and autopoiesis.

The extended mind suggests that the mind does not end at the boundary of our nervous system, but extends into the environment. In the stronger sense, enactivism suggests that the mind does not emerge over neural activity, but over the interaction between body and environment.

No, I think that this is a category error. My mind does not exist in the same frame of reference as my nervous system. But as far as we can tell, it is mostly emergent over the activity of specific parts of my CNS.

The problem is that the difference in scale and structure of neurology compared with our natural experience hides the explanatory gap from us. Biochemistry is exotic so we can imagine 'emergence' happening in some innocuous way, but it's no more reasonable.

Sure. The question is if one of these is derivative of the other. A lot of people like the idea that personal selfhood is socially constructed (singletons don’t need to have a social persona), and I wonder if it could be the other way around.

The personal self is actively looking for and constructing the other. As soon as the self goes beyond individual aesthetics, the other appears. Without other, the mind is all the agency there is. If the other is undifferentiated, the self is solipsistic, like eg a narcissist.
