“Mind” and “body” are models with different properties, of course. But the idea of “public” is a mental model, too.

What is the mind?
-
The mind is the set of functional mechanisms that produces the representations that the self experiences. I think of it as an AI that runs on the brain and generates a VR that predicts sensory data (the world) and ideas about it.

Assume computationalism is true and note that we don't have access to reality, only a simulation. There is still no problem in saying "there's stuff from which my primate body is built, which in turn instantiates my mind". Seems weird to characterize the former as a mental model.
-
The idea that you can pressuppose the existence of “stuff” is an intuition that is difficult to root out.

You could say this about any two models that are nominally about the same 'thing' - except that minds appear to 'have' qualia.

Seems like there’s a class of philosophical problem where if you could precisely describe the appropriate method of addressing it, you’d find the problem already solved.
