I am realizing new discoveries are increasing and textbooks are decreasing the entropy of information.

I agree and very few scientists were able to think this way ~ Einstein, Boltzmann, Edison, Hinton .. but I think most science publications are based on the reduction of information space. Though, I do not think only increasing the space of possibilities are necessarily positive.

Getting closer to the truth strikes me as an almost unconditionally good thing.

Almost all discoveries are of this type. It is very rare that something happens that absolutely everyone considered to be impossible.

Have you heard of Constructor Theory? It expresses laws of nature in terms of possible/impossible tasks

It gets pointed out to me from time to time but I've still got to read the book to understand how it's different from usual computational approaches to physics and/or metaphysics.
