Its more of an ultimate goalpost move - define real communism by tacking on "and everything works great and everyone is happy" and it hasn't been "tried" until it succeeds, definitionally so real communism has never been tried but they have tried to try with horrifying results

tbqh that "never been tried" view is really just people with extremely shallow understanding of the ideas and histories fumbling the actual argument. the material preconditions for communism laid out clearly by Marx from the start were never fully met in actual communist bloc
