As far as I can tell it's because the vectors that make up the LERP didn't operate on those shadow points.

I put an option in the algorithm to snap the colours to the nearest of the source or target pixel colour. It can also lerp the colours properly (I made another reply demonstrating) but it doesn't look anywhere near as good or true to the original that way.
