The problem is that our error correction is theory laden also (practically speaking).
We are quite stupid and it is hard for us to build a meta regulation that lets us understand and change what we want. Our minds are already close to the boundary of that ability. If we jump the fence, we stop believing in our self, because it relies on stabile identifications.

One does not need to " believe in " the self- sufficiently maintained by interpersonal and broader social interaction. Belief in the "self" beyond a certain pragmatic point. (primariliy in a social context) serves no useful purpose & causes mult. problems.
