I agree totally with Deutsch that intelligent machines will just be people. If they become radically superior people then I will have no better justification for complaints about their goals or methods than dogs do about mine.

I disagree. What makes people human are their identifications, which people are inclined to modify according to their skills, incentives and evolutionary prerogatives. If you were to give a human a distributed embodiment and no expiry date, they would stop being human.
