Is there a teachable way to determine the extent of our own ignorance and biases? I think it might be worth wile to design a curriculum around this.

The problem is that our error correction is theory laden also (practically speaking).

Improving your fishing ability by watching someone else fish it's not theory laden but it could be error correcting. Stop me if I'm being obnoxious or stupid!

I get enthusiastic because I think this is the most important topic for Humanity at this time. We've got to get our shit together before the machines do!

I agree totally with Deutsch that intelligent machines will just be people. If they become radically superior people then I will have no better justification for complaints about their goals or methods than dogs do about mine.

I disagree. What makes people human are their identifications, which people are inclined to modify according to their skills, incentives and evolutionary prerogatives. If you were to give a human a distributed embodiment and no expiry date, they would stop being human.

DOH! just got the "distributed embodiment " part. My bad. Wording question: Do we stay we if/when we merge with AI? At what point do we " call it". (Eg. Evolved us, new person, new species, etc). Also / or not, assuming the success of neural linkage?

The self is just a shabby story that cannot resist even mild extensions of our rationality.

From the perspective of humans, they might look like a totally invincible version of Voldemort, i.e. similar as we would look to other animals if they had human powers of conceptualization.

Yes sorry, I should point out that I mean to use “people” as a term of art distinct from “human”. People are creative autonomous explanation / knowledge / meme generators in Deutsch’s sense. Humans are the only known examples of people at the moment.
