This might be true if we finally converge to The One True Model (tm). Do you know any mathematical argument that the solution should be unique? I see no reason why we can’t or shouldn’t add dimensions/models ad infinitum.

No, the solution is clearly not unique, but many solutions seem to have similar predictive power for the available sensory data. However, there are limits to model complexity, both due to resource constraints of the human brain and training data, and a priori due to the math

Perception diminishes as we grow older, but other sources of our understanding are getting more importance, I think.

To the contrary, perception becomes more fine grained and specialized, but also not as prone to updates on the lower levels.
