Because if everybody lives in a dark room that's when you ask them how much they are willing to pay to go outside and then they are constrained by their money and other necessities that money has to cover (=real demand).No such constraints for the opposite, so wild# gets produced

It's the same with extimating the value of a wild animal species. You can arbitrarily pull whatever amount if asked what it takes for you to accept extinction , but when you have to cough up your real money to preserve them, values come back to reality.
