A powerful man offers to help a woman's career in trade for sex. Is this okay of him if a) she likes deal & accepts, b) he only ever asks once, she declines, c) deal is indirect, giving her plausible deniability? Pick 1st answer you agree with:

The reason why this is policed against is not that prostitution is immoral per se, but that it disadvantages women that want to play the same career game without engaging in prostitution.

But plenty of other common business practices disadvantage people who don't participate. E.g. mothers/fathers who have tighter schedules miss out on opportunities to work late and help their careers.

It is in the very nature of business transactions that one side uses an economic incentive to make the other do things that they would not be doing otherwise. That does not mean that all conceivable transactions should be either acceptable or outlawed (powerpoint at 3am?).

Sure. But your explanation for why Robin's scenario specifically is policed against doesn't work. Unless of course prostitution has some kind of moral quality that other transactions don't (which you seem to doubt?)

Most jurisdictions that make prostitution legal also recognize that it is not a job that most people would find acceptable to take, so nobody should be coerced into it.

This is confused. Even if a minority find it unacceptable coercion is wrong... And still, this fails to explain why this logic only ends up banning Robin's scenario and not other offers that most people find unacceptable.

In Germany, you can be forced to take up any acceptable job or lose unemployment benefits. You can for instance be coerced into a subjectively degrading advertising job, but not into sex work of any kind. This reflects a cultural consensus. Do you think that is confused?

We are trying to explain the rationale behind the cultural consensus, not assert/deny that the cultural consensus exists, nor attack/defend its logic. I'm baffled by how you're unable to understand that. I think you're also misusing the word "coercion", which adds confusion.
