Would be more interesting to learn what parents of children w/#ASD experience FOLLOWING diagnosis, ie that very often no further medical investigations are offered. Not just more interesting but more useful. And every problem was chalked up to autism. "Kids with autism have (fill in the blank). And we don't know why."

Yes, I notice that pattern, too: "He does X, Y, and Z, and might respond to this..."—"Yeah, but does he have autism?" Autism is not a single independent syndrome with a single treatment, but a suitcase term for a large number of specific things that can go wrong in a brain.
