VC exists to fund diffusion of new technology (I was going to say "and business process" but private equity does that). right now there isn't any new technology in the pipeline to diffuse, and they're currently selling hype to overseas dumb money. how long can that last?

there isn't even research in the pipeline that could turn into new technology, research is just as stalled

(That was actually mop-up. I unironically believe “we” “broke” transmission of the scientific egregore in WWII and it slowly asphyxiated.)

I think about this all the time, essentially all technology today is just downstream of things we developed immediately post-war.

I wonder go which degree we have to blame Kuhn’s idea of Normal Science, which describes what now looks like a postmodernist pathology, and is often seen as presciptive. The more a field reads Kuhn, the more broken, um, the more like sociology it is.

I think Kuhn was describing what was already happening more than he was causing it, though. The project to Record the Ultimate Laws of the Universe as had already ended

I think he developed these ideas as part of his own attempt to discover the Laws of Science. Modernism eating itself. While he worked on them, cybernetics was going strong, Minsky started AI and Chomsky linguistics, all next to him.
