It is very dangerous if you try to convince neutral people of the ethical goals of your political camp by using arguments and statistics that are not strictly true. While this may be acceptable within your camp, it drives neutral parties to the opposite camp.

Unfortunately, this is dependent upon the portion of ”neutral” people being of a size large enough to significantly affect the outcome of matter at hand. Politicians often compare the relative chance of gaining or losing demographic voting groups and adjust campaigns accordingly.

The student activists at universities probably don't notice when they create the groups they aim to fight against. Since the introduction of social media, the US has become incredibly polarized.
