Ethics is not about being "good" or "politically correct". Ethics is about modeling the consequences of our actions beyond the immediate context.

Under your assumption, a sadist acting violently could claim to behave ethically. On the long term the inflicted damage will cause additional damage in the vicinity of the victim thus modeling the consequences beyond the immediate context will increase the fun for the sadist

You are correct. Ethics is the principled negotiation of conflicts of interest under conditions of shared purpose. If you don't share purposes with your victim, there are no ethics to apply for you.

I might share the purpose of eating cake with my sibling and thus we run into a conflict of interest when there's only one piece left. Killing my sibling with the butter knife is a kind of negotiation. If this was ethical under your def. I would deem it of no practical use.

This is not a shared purpose, it is a conflict of interest. A shared purpose means that you have a joint set of goals, not a conflicting one.
