Neural signal penetration hypothesis: ASD and ADHD may be caused by neural activation not propagating over enough steps, so generalization and control become too shallow. Conversely, too deep activation may cause spiritual states (everything has 'deeper meaning') and synesthesia.

Hypersensitivity may be caused by an ASD/ADHD brain's attempt to compensate for insufficient propagation by increasing the overall gain, or due to the same lack of working inhibition that causes too much activation penetration in synesthetic and enraptured brains.

Yes. And ASD can be found both in the "underconnected" and "overconnected" cases. (But note that this is just a speculation, not established scientific consensus.)

Friston also has a neuronal "dysconnection" model of schizophrenia. Relation? It seems that ASD is globally underconnected and locally overconnected. AHAD might be frontally underconnected, locally overconnected?
