People knew in the 1980ies that without immediate changes, our civilization would face an ecological disaster. Where our parents failures because they could not turn the boat around? I suspect society has no rudders that would allow to escape the stream of industrialization.

This is a very disturbing observation, corroborated by Peter Thiel in some senses though he's more optimistic about reversing it so I cede this point for sure. Hence why I want to move to Mars when possible or just somewhere like Taiwan in the mean time.

Mars does not even have an atmosphere. After our grandkids are totally done with Earth, the most uninhabitable places will still be magnitudes more conducive to human life than anything on Mars.

It just occurs to me that it might still be a question of timing rather than inevitable doom. I mean, if we have till 2200 before actual catastrophe, Mars might casually lend Earth a couple billion tonnes of solar reflectors in Geosynchronus orbit and just refreeze the poles.
