Is ADHS possibly caused by insufficiently deep propagation of anticipated reward signals in the motivational control architecture? And ADHS stimulants increase their reach by amplifying the dopaminergic receptors?

ADHD is habituation of reward system to abnormally large dopamine supply triggered by chronic hyper-stimulation of reward pathways (tv, video games, smartphones), raising the dop bar for motivation/attention. Stimulants boost dop release, so normal rewards to reach threshold.

How often does that lead to an intensification of the opportunistic behaviors?

What do you mean by opportunistic behaviors? Behaviors that predict reward (or are primary rewards themselves) are reinforced, at the expense of alternatives. Severe addiction is the singularity wherein a behavior monopolizes reward system.

Opportunistic means short-game. As in getting drunk now vs. not being hung over tomorrow vs. not fucking up your life ten years later.

Pressing a lever for transient electrical stimulation of nucleus accumbens —> forgoing food (unto death). We maximize expected reward. If we find ourselves in environment with low-cost access to hyper-rewards, everything else loses salience.

I suspect that we confuse anticipated reward vs. actual reward signals. The former control behavior, the latter reinforce behavior. An anticipated reward signal may persist in the absence of actual reward, especially if it picks up enough accidental rewards

Also, can find self stuck in “non-falsifiable” dead-ends in which one’s predictive model explains away failures as suggesting, eg insufficient effort or bad luck or enemy action. Prediction model protected from update although maladaptive.

The same thing happens with success: accidental success will often be attributed to skill and effort.
