The structure of representations in our brain is such that replacing a neuron with another will entrain the new neuron with the same function as the one it replaces.

it depends how many you take out. if the area is large enough then the solution space will become so large that you probably won't recover the original state (even though the new one may be equivalent, as long as the temporary absence does not throw everything else into disarray)
