Wrt diet, it may matter less what it contains, but what a an organism is adapted for. Different diets have different results for different metabolisms. Could changes in diet signal unstable environments to the organism, and induce more fertility, more mutations, shorter life?

Beautiful tweet. Yes, aging is an evolutionary adaptation to shorten generational length and effectively make organisms more nimble at adapting to environmental changes. In blue zones, the environment is so stable that having grandparents around is worth more than adaptability.

Obviously, grandparents have a vested interest in the survival of their progeny, so in stable blue zones those who lived longer and contributed to the survival of their progeny evidently ended up more successful at procreating than those who died younger.
