As long as we are still burning fossil fuels to generate energy, the idea of capturing the CO2 from the atmosphere is a joke. It would require more than all the energy we have generated since the beginning of the industrial age. Or millions of years of growing non-rotting trees.
Yes, but it would take trillions of trees, in addition to the existing plants, to capture 1500Gt. Even if we use all existing and potential agricultural land, it won’t be enough.

Yeah, i've only said that because i saw a youtube about terraforming deserts. But it's a very very big longshot. I still believe that some bio-engineered way (e.g. structures with cyanobacteria) is a way to go just because of ease of manufacture and maintenance.

also related: has anyone done any calculation how hard it would be to reform new coal/peat/similar carbon stuck in one form underground - for carbon capture (and in case the civilization ends that new industrial revolution would be possible :D)
