How many communities is this true for? Only in societies where the individual’s only extension is their children or their parents. Cultures that encourage individualism and yet promote ideas to remedy its direct and surely expected outcome confuse me.https://twitter.com/StefanMolyneux/status/1041417303898902528 …

One of the most important life lessons: if you have no children, the last third of your life will be filled with increasing death. If you have children, the last of your life will be filled with increasing life. Choose wisely.

Sure but where can atomization exist without individualism?

An overdose of communitarianism can be toxic too. I believe that highly communitarian societies (Eastern ones) badly need an individualist correction as much as highly individualistic societies (Western ones) need a communitarian correction. The ideal is right in the middle.

The atomization of families in central Europe happened by design, via the introduction of the manorial system. It turned societies from clan based organization to rule based organization and made them more programmable.

Probably, the prevalence of first cousin marriages in some parts of the world keeps them clannish, hampering the formation of civil society and functioning states. @hbdchick has some interesting work on this
