On the train from the #HLAI2018 conference I had a fascinating convo with a physiotherapist. She pointed out how all human perception starts with proprioception, and if proprioception breaks down, we lose orientation in the world. @Numenta makes a similar point for AI.
At the lowest level of my consciousness, I don’t perceive a body or a self. Also, goals are situations/events, and unlike needs they need to be constructed.

I would say at the lowest level of consciousness (simple matter) you ONLY perceive a body/self, and nothing else. So you can't compare it to anything (and aren't "aware of your awareness".

So when you dream without the experience of a body, you don’t consider yourself conscious?
