On the train from the #HLAI2018 conference I had a fascinating convo with a physiotherapist. She pointed out how all human perception starts with proprioception, and if proprioception breaks down, we lose orientation in the world. @Numenta makes a similar point for AI.
Locality is itself a model property. Arguably, the world model starts out as a fully connected function, but it seems that humans use multiple independent high level models to explain different domains.

Higher levels build on various forms of statistical proximity, which can be seen as a higher level version of locality. The most parsimonious model is isomorphic with the data!
