On the train from the #HLAI2018 conference I had a fascinating convo with a physiotherapist. She pointed out how all human perception starts with proprioception, and if proprioception breaks down, we lose orientation in the world. @Numenta makes a similar point for AI.

I don't think we can be conscious at any level without a material existence. Thoughts are energy (non-material) patterns, but matter is needed to contain the thoughts. Only matter can be conscious (and intelligent). This text isn't intelligent. The brain that considers them is.
-
Do you have a ckear understanding what matter and energy actually are?

I refer you to our tweets yesterday regarding category mistake, extended mind & causal closure... Do you mean perception as physiological phenomena or 'mental'.
-
We start out with a body map that is oriented in a space by the vestibular system. But this body map and sense of space are constructed within the mind, as an encoding over the available sensory data.

Since most patterns we can make sense of are local, an intelligence likely needs topographical sensory data to bootstrap.
-
Locality is itself a model property. Arguably, the world model starts out as a fully connected function, but it seems that humans use multiple independent high level models to explain different domains.

Sounds correct to me! That's why to build 'human complete' intelligence you have to build it up from multiple layers of 'selves': https://medium.com/intuitionmachine/moravecs-paradox-implies-that-agi-is-closer-than-we-think-9011048bc4a1 … .

If you go for the cutting edge therapists / therapy - the lasting interventions are with body movement. As for the connection to language - Metaphors of Movement from Andrew Austin. It's also one of the best intro's how status / dominance works.
