It seems to me that civilizations have an emergent intellect that operates and updates on a larger timescale than individual generations, and is usually not comprehended and rarely apprehended by even the most educated members of its polis.
The data is entirely unrealistic. The difference between the evolution of the state vector of the universe and the sparse, noisy excitations your sensory nerves register is vast.

I'd call it limited and focused, rather than unrealistic. The real data is being measured, but with a specific kind of tool. Like taking a photograph on color film instead of an MRI. It's still real. But not the whole picture of reality. But sure, I understand what you're saying.

It is often a problem when we are confused about things without knowing that we are confused. We may experience our faulty model as reality, and readily map what other people are saying to that faulty model, missing the differences that meant to elucidate the error of the model.
