The trick is to constantly reference back so that skill is exercised and the student continues to strengthen the connections to topics and techniques that they are relatively quickly introduced to

Typically the question is how to make a topic relevant to the student. Well adjusted brains learn all that is relevant to them and filter out the rest. Much of education seems to be about trying to game these filters.

Schools should use spaced repetition

Irrelevant things tend to be forgotten. Much of our education is not retained beyond the exam. That strikes me as a poor use of neuroplastic years.

It's almost like schools serve a purpose different than educating people effectively...

Daycare, social training and teaching how to deal with boredom and frustration are worthy goals, too.

I’ve often thought of this as Jenga education. An MS level knowledge of a subject built on anything other than straight A’s is a bit like a Jenga tower in mid game. If it’s mostly B’s and C’s, it’s wobbly and can hold moderate loads. If it’s Cs and Ds, it worthlessly fragile
-
This seems mostly like a problem of when and how the measurement is taken. I would hope we would be stacking moderate things on wobbly basis as we build to a robust base that can withstand many pressures. Unfortunately the current system is almost entirely devoid of integration.

I loved that view ever since I read ‚Reality is Broken‘ by
@avantgame .. The problem (even for a place like Germany where people always assume education is awesome) is how to roll it out into the education system. Reform in education is hard and slow, minds hard to change.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
