“X is the gateway drug to Y.” or “X is just next door to Y.” where X must be shunned b/c Y is bad, is almost always a wrong argument. Why? CONJECTURE: For every Good Thing X in the world, there exists a Bad Thing Y and a weak person P so that P will find a path to Y from X.
