Elon Musk's strategy seems to be to create a better universe in his mind. Then he envisions that he already lives in it and tries to construct a path from the present one. Powerful strategy for a visionary, dangerous when you slip up and talk about stocks.

There's a fine line between creating your own reality and living within your own delusions. So where exactly IS that line? Thoughts?

The problem manifests when you lack self-awareness, and succumb to your own attempts to hypnotize the world.

Then are you actually hypnotizing the world, yourself, or is the world hypnotizing you?

Personally, I find it very objectionable to succumb to my own need for meaning, or use it to project meaning for others, even though I recognize the utility and evolutionary adaptive value of that. But the projection of meaning is part of leadership.

An effective leader must appear to serve the same meaning as his thralls, and it certainly helps if he is enthralled himself. But if that compromises his sense for what is true, the bank tends to win.

I sometimes think that meaning is like the One Ring of Mordor. We must carry it and not drop it, so we don't lose the mission and the fellowship. But if we actually wear it, we get superpowers, while being corrupted.
