Totalitarian states claim a monopoly on violence, too. The question is to which point a religious sub-group is allowed to impose law-like norms on its members that are more restrictive than the parent society, and to which degree they may even deviate (like animal rights).

Repercussions by the group if one does not obey the norm, possibly by the group's own administration: e.g., can catholic hospitals fire divorced employees?
