How do you define causation? For me it suffices to eliminate all system boundaries, because causality involves multiple systems with shared interfaces.

We obviously don’t live in a material universe but in a dream, generated by a mind on a higher plane of existence. That mind needs to be computed somehow, and physics explores the higher plane. The neocortex is the dreamer.
