      A simulation recreates emergent properties of a system using a different mechanism. A simulacrum merely recreates the appearance of a system. Our perception of the physical universe is a simulation (generated by our mind), our perception of the social universe is a simulacrum.

      Perception is correctly predictive: it allows you to predict the next set of patterns on your cochlea, retina, thalamus. In this sense, it is a simulation, not a simulacrum.

          No, it is not. Your retina only delivers a sparse noisy sampling, and all the amazing moving 3d reality you experience is the predictor function for the next sample. The evolving universe state vector you sample looks nothing like the predictor function.
