He later reflected on some of these things himself. And the reason why most people never heard about Cartan’s theory might also have to do with Einstein‘s outsized influence (which does not diminish his accomplishments). I suspect you know all this and are just annoyed with me.

And yes, I’m only slightly annoyed in the sense that I think you presume to know what Einstein thought or felt, and that in so doing you vastly simplify the very messy and all too human process of science.
