I wish that people loudly criticizing Trump's statements would finally notice that they are not his intended audience; they are the amplifiers that he uses to reach his audience.

What do you suggest they do instead? I think, it's easy to know what not to do, as compared to what to do.

Build a better Trump, a bipartisan candidate with broad public appeal. More politics, less identity politics. Account for the fact that half the country despises the media, and that condemnations of the outgroup only convince the ingroup. Look through other people’s eyes.

Most importantly, there needs to be a different plan to govern this republic, with major institutional reforms and different incentives. Neither Dem nor GOP have such a plan. The public face on the government should be picked for public appeal, not for dynastic reasons like HRC.

I agree with that. It's along the lines of what Lakoff has been saying since the beginning of the presidential campaign. But I'm really asking short-term. People hear something they don't like, they voice their displeasure. Maybe they could divert the conversation somewhere else.

People in the aggregate don’t have a choice. They are reactive, following their reflexes and programming. Almost nobody knows what they are doing. Sadly myself included.
