This is a misunderstanding of #Karma due to western conditioning in a single linear history of time. Karma leads to *infinite* possibilities at any moment, which are nevertheless conditioned by the potential of a situation. Īśwara is a guide amongst these infinite possibilities.https://twitter.com/Koenraad_Elst/status/1012393757998829568 …

Theism combined with karma is nonsense. The karma doctrine is necessarily atheistic, hence central in Buddh/Jainism. Bhakti, like Christianity, is great as producer of endless beauty in every art, & I love bhajans, like I still love Gregorian; but nonetheless, it is a mistake. https://twitter.com/shrikanth_krish/status/1012341312241176577 …

The Bhagavad Gīta image of Arjuna taking guidance from Kṛshṇa is a symbolic representation of the conscious mind being attentive to the subconscious which is the true actor of freedom anywhere in this universe. The symbol of the chariot with the 5 horses refer to the 5 senses.pic.twitter.com/A4CSg6k8s3

The key difference of Dharmic model of time from western model of single history is that there are multiple paths branching out of any moment. These are all equally valid and justified by the laws of Karma. The universe splits into many, of which the mind can access only one.

The theistic path refers to the Īśwara (personal deity) as a guide to choose between the multiple paths such that the self (Jeeva) is led to a happier ending (Śrēyas). The atheistic model (e.g, Sāmkhya) tries to achieve this purely through wisdom (Jñāna).https://twitter.com/vakibs/status/927423114681524224 …

Certain atheistic paths existed in India which disputed Karma altogether e.g, Chārvākas argued that life ends with death and there is no carryover of Karma. But this is disputed by other atheistic paths e.g Mīmāmsa, Sāmkhya, Buddhism, Jainism etc. none of which require Īśwara.

One way to understand Karma is to imagine life as a computer game, where the user has multiple options for interaction. The game evolves based on the user's input. If the user chose a different input, he would be led into a different universe, nevertheless conditioned by Karma.

The universe (Prakṛti) is imagined as a cosmic wheel where all the paths of Karma are circumambulations around the Puruṣa (the experiencing self). What we experience as time, and what is recorded in our physics and history books, is simply one such path.http://www.pragyata.com/mag/the-cosmic-wheel-366 …

How do you think it is implemented? Or is pure magical symbolism?

The Vṛttis of the universe are computational. This use of the word vṛtti to refer to computation (by Pānini) is earlier to the use by Patanjali (who commented on Pānini's works) to refer to the transformations of the cognitive states in Yoga. http://the-redpill.blogspot.com/2018/04/the-sanskrit-word-for-algorithm-vrtti.html?m=1 …

Please note the plural. There is no determinism in this computation. Many paths are possible, all of which are computationally valid. The Karma (carryover from prior choices) in one path is different from anothe. But all the 3 Gunas of Prakrti are driven by computation (Vrtti).
