Gary Marcus style arguments of innateness are probably not cutting it (he would have to show that evolutionary search somehow yielded results that cannot be efficiently replicated by any of the known algorithmic approaches).

The question whether something is science fiction is entirely orthogonal to whether it is possible.

The confusion between "possible to imagine" with "possible" seems to be at the heart of the claims you're making. No such algorithm or mechanism is remotely capable of the things you're suggesting (e.g., modeling the complexity and functionality of a mind).
