As someone who has been through a years long GI disorder and come out the other side I can tell you your comment is misguided and misinformed. An out of control gut biome will wreak havoc on your mental state.

Of course it will, but not by the microbiome controlling your brain. The mental problems are likely caused by the metabolic issues (missing neurotransmitters, toxins etc.)

It is a poverty of imagination to think every relationship in terms of master and slave control. For any reasonably complex system, control is maintained by more refined relationships which depend on the context. That's the whole point of memory: encoding the context.

But of course, people who are anally retentive of causality cannot imagine anything beyond a master-slave relationship because causality needs to order from top to bottom.
