If we cannot answer the annoying question of why there is something rather than nothing, perhaps we can at least answer why there is only something rather than everything. Perhaps existence is the default.

No. The symmetry defines what can exist. That's how we do physics. You write down a symmetry group and everything follows from that. It is not an emergent property.

Of course that might be wrong. But every theorist on earth hopes there is the symmetry group that explains everything, and therefore that is the modus operandi.
