Is there facial emotion recognition software that registers the actual emotions of people instead of responding to grimaces?

I thing that the way to beat “the brain to face distance” is to get a large set of MR - face pictures, first studying least possible parts of the face in the effort to “filter out” grimacing...or something like that.

I don't think that is necessary. Yes, you want to look for the difference to the situationally expected face, but you probably don't need to fudge your learning system to figure that out by itself.
