I just wonder if someone can point me to work on this. The things I know just respond to what emotion you crudely pretend to have, not to your actual one.

No, you cannot “recognize” emotions … you can only recognize facial expression.

Your brain is probably not doing anything in that domain that existing machine learning could not. I just don’t know if someone trained on emotions rather than stereotypical expressions.

The work so far is primitive. Data sets are all for 6 standards expressions. My team is currently working on this problem. We are thinking of collecting fresh set of facial expressions from professional artists. Right now our data set is of just 3 people we know.
