Do you tell this yourself to keep going? You don’t have to do that to yourself, you know. You are not too stupid to buckle down and fix your foundations, or pick a field of exploration where you are not such a self mutilating dilettante.

As for this: "self mutilating dilettante"... I don't even know where to start with responding to that. But it sounds like you have a lot of anger inside you about the world. And that's gotta suck.

I saying this in the kindest way possible, but I still think I should not have said that. I am trying to take you seriously. You cannot just clown around and expect that other people don’t get annoyed and keep talking to you.

I mean, taking anything seriously seems deadly dull. Reality is amazing and bizarre and delightful if you don't try to take it seriously.

Please, I am bored out of my mind by fun! Leave the old man be!

Oh, good! Then why try to take me seriously? Don't go boring yourself now!

I am sorry, I did not mean to hurt you. Of course I will take you seriously, but I will stop listening for a while.

You didn't hurt me. I don't take anything seriously. Life is too short for that for me. I've got things to explore and discover. Please don't take me seriously. But don't bore yourself either. Just express whatever you find most interesting, whenever you want.

I cannot help but think that something very bad happened to you, and now you detach yourself from the thing that hurts. But that is not working for me, and I am not sure how sustainable it can be. Also not sure if it is helpful if I say that out loud.

You keep talking about things hurting. What's going on with that? When something hurts with you, do you allow yourself to feel the hurt, fully? Or do you feel the need to detach?

Usually, a pain signal disappears when the thing in your mind that wanted to send it feels that it has been heard out. So I tend to go all in, but try to avoid a rumination loop, where the pain activates content that in turn reactivates the pain generator.

I've found that the rumination loop goes away too after I let it express itself.
