I think that there are other minds similar to mine, so I am not a solipsist. But I also don't think that we have direct access to a shared reality. We are just creating dreams with somewhat isomorphic properties. Each dream is self-contained. Every brain dreams its own universe.

But we have mathematics in common. Simulated or dreamed maths is the same as the actual maths, unless one is deluded that 1+1=3.

Yes, I think of mathematics as the set of all languages. Languages are defined by generative rules, and the dynamics of the language follow intrinsically from the rules, not from the rule manipulator. If you have a universal computer to execute the rules, you get the same math.

So dreaming of a fiction (the self) is an emergent characteristic of math?

At least indirectly. Physics may be a fractal generated by the emergent characteristics of math, and dreaming is a fractal generated by certain physical systems.

Don't turn into a Deepak Chopra. That conference seems to have been more of a 'cultural' event than an academic one, with a few big names to get the money in. Apologies in advance if I am out of turn. That interviewer looked a bit 'alternative lifestyle'.

While I share your concern about Deepak Chopra and the scientific integrity of large parts of the conference, it addresses an audience that genuinely seeks answers for their existential questions. I found it to be a place for useful conversations.

I suppose your main concern is defining useful models, so your inspiration can come from anywhere at all as long as the model itself has some value.

Not only is that event full of wonderful, heart centered and curious people, I also had conversations that I could not have had elsewhere, from which I got a number of insights and acquaintances that I would sorely miss. But I fully understand and share your concerns.

And Stu Hameroff is a great artist; the psychedelic sculpture garden disguised as a scientific theory he builds acts like a coral reef that gives home to a valuable little ecosystem for the exploration of meaning. Nobody gets his microtubuli anyway, they are harmless. :)
