Some people, like Christof Koch, think that a simulation cannot become conscious. The irony is that only simulations can be conscious. Consciousness is a simulated property of a simulated system.
How can I make you see that your foundations don't hold, and that you cannot make far reaching inferences while standing on broken foundations? For instance, your toolbox cannot prove what an if/then process can and cannot do, and it does not even tell you that it cannot.

You can't. You can only use my offerings to explore different ways of looking at reality, to understand it more fully. Nothing can be proven, aside from "something exists". Everything else is a subjective perspective. The more perspectives you add, the more robust your map.

As for the consciousness thing, I'm just explaining other people's views here about what they mean when they talk about consciousness. Consciousness isn't a specific thing, but a mishmash of different ideas glommed onto some squiggly lines (or sounds).
