Wise words, as ever. I would say two things: 1) Building something 'good' in yourself is like painting the Humber bridge. It requires ongoing maintenance; 2). Individuals are part of families & wider groups. Building something good in yourself can't be a solitary activity.

The issue with difficult circumstances is that they are usually caused by problems in your family and wider groups. Thus, intact families and communities may tend to liberate you from the need to build the good thing, because your needs are already met.

imo that's the bottle neck of generation X. the problem is we hardly faced any problems and became too lazy to compete with desperation
-
No, that is not true. We faced the problem of coming to terms with a civilization that lost the plot after it became apparent that we did not fix poverty and suffering but condemned ourselves to doom by environmental destruction. We were the generation that had lost the future.

it seems there are only 2 modes in this universe - on or off. everything else is just an abstraction. during our experience as conscious beings, we either pick the "do something" or "just enjoy the show" path. I like to think I have yet to decide
-
what if the universe is ternary and all the things are either + or – or 0?

Nice conversation. imo the world starts with “I am” which means I always have a choice. I would argue for 0 and +1 ...

It's a risky situation, either you build something good in yourself in the face of adversity or you get dragged down by it. Some win, some lose.
