In the current economic context, it amounts to destroying the pile of the so-called "dark money", that grows exponentially but to which nobody has any access. It is a deeper simulacron that is conjured into existence in order to maintain the pretense of the outer simulacron.
I understand this nostalgia is your identity, like mine is the bittersweet world of German eternalist romanticism, but it is just as wrong. The universe does not work this way. You only feel it should, because the identity fixes it to that target value.

You are not a scholar of the history of science, Joscha. If you were, you would see how often the Greeks & Romans are referred to in the western academia for every single thing. Scientific culture, just like any culture, develops with a history. It is important to realize this.

Improper evaluation of history, which obscures a significant part of human civilization, will produce a sub-optimal vision for the future of science. I am not saying we go back to a pastoralist past of Vedic India. I am claiming the future as an Indian who knows his past.
