A Proton Hotfix change has just been deployed to fix an issue where the Dead Space save screen thumbnail wouldn't appear properly. We're not aware of any remaining issues with the game but are continuing to monitor reports.

A Proton Hotfix update has just been pushed with a fix for the Dead Space map issue. It also addresses a minor performance issue where the game's usage of Variable-Rate Shading was being ignored.

An initial set of pre-compiled shaders is now in place for Dead Space - the experience should be much improved now, especially on first run. The map crash issue is being investigated.

New Proton Experimental includes a fix for the issue where Japanese text input in Final Fantasy XIV resulted in "???" getting typed. Thank you so much for the many reports!

Vulkan Video has been quite a project, with lots of foundational work done by Valve through our partners at - great to see it finally working in the wild!

HDR working on a docked Deck connected to a current-gen LG OLED through HDMI! Again still needs a ton of work but making good progress.

I remember people on our side tried to push for better machine interface performance ~8 years ago but upstream wasn't into the idea at the time. Good to see the tides seem to have changed!

Here is DEATH STRANDING DC running with HDR on Linux! It's hard to show off HDR... so have a HDR Heatmap to go along with it! Anything not greyscale is brighter than 100 nits. 🌞🐸

New Linux gaming milestone: with the latest work from Josh Ashton, HDR can now be enabled for real games! Tested it tonight on my AMD desktop with Halo Infinite, Deep Rock Galactic, DEATH STRANDING DC. Very early and will still need some time to bake to be useful to most.

Alright, I think we can call it. 2022 was Year of the Gyro! #Fortnite, #CallofDuty, #GodofWarRagnarok, #Deathloop, #NeonWhite, the #SteamDeck, and much more made this an exceptional year. Read a little more about why 2022 was Year of the Gyro: cohost.org/jibbsmart/post

PC gaming and modding/gamemaking are two sides of the same coin - it's really important that someone can make a game on Deck and ship it to whoever they want without any third party deciding if it should be on the platform or not.

There is a 3.4.3 build up for testing in Preview, where the only change is a fix for the black screen issue with Forza Horizon. In addition, we've made a server-side tweak for No Man's Sky that should kick in if you restart Steam and fix the crashing issue.

We've seen the feedback on the 3.4 SD card mount path breaking pre-existing non-Steam shortcuts. We'll roll back the change to USB auto-mounting from 3.4 and and defer it until 3.5 in the new year, to give software some time to adjust to the new standard path.
