Our system with federal consistency and scrutineers around to call out obvious issues seems to be reasonably stable *touch wood*

Paper voting helps a lot as well though. We shouldn’t lose sight about how much avoiding technology in that one part of life actually helps us all, and makes the nasty stuff so much harder to execute

I love paper votes... except at hour 4+ of counting senate ballots when my back would like to complain. Having a tangible piece of paper that is checked twice in a standard count is just so mentally comforting.

As someone from the IT space, I will absolutely never accept an electronic voting system that does not have a paper trail. The machine can print a card the voter can see and put in a ballot box that can be later counted and checked manually if there is any dispute.

We do actually already use a modified version of electronic voting, but you have to fit into very specific categories who make voting normally difficult. It uses receipts and PIN numbers so you can check everything registered correctly.

The AEC and subsidiary state ECs are VERY chary about extending the trials one iota further than they need to, but they are getting practical data on effectiveness and security concerns.

Like y’all, I’m quite fond of our little cardboard voting booths, our paper ballots no matter how huge they get, the stubby little pencils that are probably 40 years old now, oh and preferential voting not to mention compulsory voting, enjoying your chatter crew
